Two Comics
Both of these were brought to my attention via comics curmudgeon commenters.
a href=”http://joshreads.com/?p=692#comment-45958″>Fishbul42 pointed out what may be the end of Garfield. If there is one theme that this long-running and humorless strip has hammered on, again and again and again, it’s that Jon Arbuckle is a loser in every respect: he’s abused by his pets, his family is weird, he has piss-poor taste in clothing, he has no friends to speak of (besides his miserable cat), and his luck with women is just awful. This guy hasn’t had a date that went well in the entire history of the strip.
Until this week:

Honestly, I’d like to say something snarky and nasty, but I just feel good for ol’ fictional, lantern-jawed Jon. I remember when this strip was new, when it was actually funny (sort of). For that matter, the Jon-Makes-a-Play-For-Liz-and-Flops gag has been a staple of the strip since day one: it’s more than 20 years old! The running “Jon’s-a-loser” gag has been so stale for so long, it’s actually kinda nice to to see something work out for him. About the only thing as nice would be watching the Trix Rabbit and Lucky the Leprechaun beat the living shit out of those fucking kids that keep hounding them and swiping their cereal, and then using the children’s hollowed out skulls as bowls.
Then there is this, from badly Computer Animated Boy:

Not only is it the first time a Fox Trot strip has been funny, it’s funny because it’s true. I just wish that instead of Paige’s head, it was Granthony.
