In Which I Agree With the AFA (Well, Sort Of).
Via atrios and Pandagon, I learned that one of the sex-obsessed dingalings at the AFA wants to launch a boycott of Philadelphia.
Diane Gramley, president of the American Family Association of Pennsylvania, contends the presence of the signs in an area known as the “Gayborhood” is an affront to Pennsylvanians like herself who view homosexual acts as immoral.
According to Gramley, the city was prompted by the Philadelphia Gay Tourism Caucus to approve the street signs. “What the city of Philadelphia is doing is looking for the homosexual [tourism] dollars,” she says. “They need to know that if they are going to be accommodating homosexuals, then they’re going to lose the traditional family dollars.”
The city of Philadelphia is not family friendly, says Gramley — and families should not choose Philadelphia as a vacation spot, she adds. The AFA of Pennsylvania leader believes a loss in tourism dollars is the only way the city is going to get the message.
“Let’s face it,” she says; “the majority of people in America hold traditional values, or they at least believe that homosexual acts are not right — and we need to just send that message to Philadelphia.”
Ms. Gramley, let me be the first on the left (well, I guess after atrios) to applaud your decision. By all means, boycott Philadelphia. Do your utmost to ensure that no member of the AFA crosses the city line. Spread the word to other “pro-family” organizations, to James Dobson, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and Liberty University. Please, please, please Diane, make sure that a full, total, and permanent boycott takes place.
Believe you me, most Philadelphians will back you up. We don’t want your money either, and the sight of you born-again wackos writhing in the streets, speaking in tongues, handling snakes, droning away about Deuteronomy 9:12, and self-flagellating is infinitely more hideous than the hairiest, fattest, oldest gay guy in assless chaps.
Please boycott us. Take your friends with their weird obsessions about “partialism”, “toucherism”, and “coprophilia” with you. And don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

As someone who lives a considerable distance from Philadelphia, and who could make a family decision to visit Philly with husband & children on vacation, I’d like to say that my family is a little more afraid of your out of control gun/violent death situation than we are about gay people.
Afraid of gay people. Now that’s funny.

Yes, and she can call every last living one of her wackos out of the Kansas City metro too. Now about the hairy assless chaps, hmmm.

When I heard about this, the first thing I did was smile happily. I think City Hall should endorse the boycott and even provide media spots telling gay-hating religious folks that Philadelphia is for people and families that don’t have creepy fascinations with homosexuals and gay sex.
We’ll get by just fine without them, I think.
On the other hand, why is it always the homosexuals and never the lesbians? I mean…you’d think they could clarify their hatred at least a little bit, right?
